Swansea District encompasses the Bristol Channel and includes 300 miles of very varied coastline, stretching from the east bank of the River Tywi in Carmarthenshire through to the upper reaches of the River Severn and around to Marsland Mouth on the Devon Cornwall border.

The first image shows Swansea coastguard station at a moment of change in July 1982.
On the Tut Hill headland, the original wooden lookout post lies to the left of the later white brick station (which is partly hidden by two Portakabins). The current station is in the process of being erected, hence the crane and Portakabins. For comparison there's the same view in 2009.
